How to go Trofeo

Niel Mouton's Giulia

There is a successful Alfa Romeo Trofeo racing series running in Gauteng. This has proved to be an exciting series thus far, both from a participant and spectator point of view. Young and old have come and enjoyed themselves. It is the platform for both older and later models to run together, and is a fantastic opportunity for families and friends, young and old, to join each other out on the track. The Trofeo series is regarded as the introductory step to racing, with no fuss, minimal rules and loads of fun racing. Sponsorships make this form of racing affordable.

The CARC, as representative of Western Cape Alfisti, is marketing the Trofeo series in an attempt to assist the WPMC in getting a local series established. The idea is to grow the series through combining it with the local Fine Cars series initially. It is possible to enter your standard road going Alfa Romeo in this race category.

Handicap System:
The position on the grid for each heat is determined by taking the individual handicap time for that heat multiplied by the number of laps and adding a ½ second per car to be passed. However, the handicappers reserve the right to alter this allowance should conditions on the day dictate
Cars are set off at different intervals with the slowest car starting first and the fastest last.
The handicap lap time is set for the first heat based on the fastest qualifying lap time on the day with an option for the driver to nominate a faster lap time to avoid breaking the handicap lap time after adjusting for the allowance.
The competitor will have the option to nominate a time subject to the exclusion rule below. (The allowance is 1.5% in the first heat and 1.0% in the second).
Should the lap time on any single lap during the first heat be an improvement of more than 1.5% on the allocated lap time, the driver is excluded from the results for that heat.
The second heat handicap time is based on the best lap time from the first heat, practice session, or nominated time, whichever is fastest
