Brian Smith will be sadly missed

Brian was the chairman of the Cape Alfa Romeo club for many years and together with Bob Corbett as treasurer. He brought about the birth of AROASA together with Bob and I. Brain and I were colleagues at GUD/FRAM for some 30 years, he was based in Cape Town and I was in JHB. He was the first chairman of AROASA until he handed over to me about ten years ago. Brian felt that the contact was to be easier to maintain with someone based in JHB.

When Brian retired a few years back he took up the post of chairman of the Western Province motor club and Managing Director of the Killarney Race Circuit as well as serving on the board of Motor Sport South Africa. He still held these positions when he passed away on Tuesday this week after a battle with leukemia. He raced a magnificent red Berlina and drove a 156 GTA as he daily car and also had a Spider.

Brian brought about many long overdue changes at Killarney and was the kind of person that made a success of everything he put his mind to. I was proud to have served with Brian on the Alfa Club Committees and experience his infectious professionalism

He will be sadly missed at the Alfa Clubs and in motor racing circles in South Africa.

The Alfa Romeo clubs of SA and myself offer our heartfelt condolences to his wife Christine and children.
